My concept for this coat was Level Four Biosafety Lab — or BSL-4 for short. Only a small number of labs in the world can attain this level of classification. They contain the most dangerous viruses and microorganisms known to humans — the plague, smallpox, Ebola, and SARS to name just a few. Researchers in these labs must wear cumbersome protective equipment to protect themselves from the dangerous biohazards they work with.
Thinking about isolation and sterile environments, I developed this coat creating my own knit structure on a double bed knitting machine. Hand poured latex was used in the sleeves and pockets.
