Exploring RISD library’s extensive collection of books, I looked into the works of Sigrid Calon in the Special Collections department. In the process of looking for more books of hers, and being unable to find more, I came across Alexander Girard; who worked with Ray and Charles Eames on a collection. I was blown away by the way color was incorporated into the work of each artist -- bold playful primary colors are used in both pieces intended for adults and ones meant for children. This piece is inspired by a collection of toys made by the Eames. I made a series of motifs which incorporate the shapes and color found in the works of Girard and Eames. They are arranged in a row as if they are buildings on a street.
